Case Study – Cadman’s Service Station, Gargrave

Client: R N Wooler & Co.
Value: £1.3m
Location: Gargrave, Skipton
Brief Description
Our client was looking at purchasing the fuel filling station and garage site and redeveloping the site with residential housing. The site vendor had previously commissioned a desk study for the site and we were appointed to review this report and undertake a Phase 2 geoenvironmental report to support a planning application.
Project Challenges & Solution
We undertook the site investigation works while the site was still active, the investigation identified that redundant underground fuel tanks had leaked historically and impacted the site and the underlying secondary aquifer.
We acted as the client agent for remediation works which involved the decommissioning of underground fuel tanks, removal of previously decommissioned fuel tanks and excavation and treatment of impact soils down to the groundwater table. Further works included the validation of the remediation works and installation of clean capping.
The site was remediated to allow residential housings to be constructed, which were completed in mid-2014.
